Covering Medical Equipment

A friend shared this article from Alicia Regan’s blog regarding medicaid changes in several states.  Per my own experience, securing medical equipment in a timely manner can be quite the hassle.  When my chair broke in December of 2012,  it wasn’t until March of 2013 that I got a new chair.  Furthermore, when my chair broke down twice this summer it took over a month each time for Medicaid to approve payment.

Several states are looking to make cuts to these programs and funds, to secure a cost savings.  The irony of such cuts is that the resulting delays in equipment prevent individuals in need of this equipment from working, conducting daily life activities, and may jeopardize their health with the risk of bed sores, pressure sores, and hospital stays resulting from long periods of time spent in bed.  If it hadn’t been for my 16 year old backup chair, the Tank, I may have been unable to work for 2 months when my chair broke down, and/or would have had to rent an electric wheelchair leaving insurance and Medicaid with the tab (in some cases several hundred dollars or over a grand per month).

Please share your support and voice in the petition that Alicia shares in her blog:
