Dinner and A Movie

Going to the movies and having a snack or beverage while in the wheelchair is often a struggle.  You have to balance the snack, the drink, and often use both arms to lift and/or stabilize each (if you’re able to lift them).  Yet using a wheelchair tray is an even bigger hassle, having to haul around a giant piece of wood or plastic that sits atop the armrests.

A few times, this balancing act has resulted in disaster, involving spilled nachos , soda, etc.  Even the dine-in theaters rarely accommodate wheelchairs, aside from an empty spot to park the wheelchair.

Yet, just last week, my fiancee and I went to see a movie at a newer theater, BrewFlix (edit: this was a typo, the theater is called Flix Brewhouse – https://www.flixbrewhouse.com/), that not only had roll-away chairs, to allow for wheelchair users to sit anywhere in the accessible row, but also had a counter at a good height for accommodating wheelchair users.  Even the push button to call the wait-staff was at a nice accessible location.

As such, Lisa and I were able to enjoy tasty beverages and tasty nachos (with Queso blanco with green chilies), without fear of spills or drops, while watching Glass (which I recommend).  It was a fun way to spend our Super Bowl Sunday (as I hear we didn’t miss anything).
