Taming the Thermostat

The battle over the thermostat is one of legends.  Mom turns it up, dad turns it down, and the kids are all across the board.  While that may not quite be an issue in my apartment as my girlfriend and I like it hot, adjusting the thermostat has often been challenging for me, due to the reach.  Even though the thermostat in my apartment is set at a relatively convenient location, it can still prove difficult to reach out and adjust the temperature as I like.  And once in bed it becomes impossible.

Thus I hopped aboard the Smart Home train to “tame the thermostat“.  Having installed a Nest smart thermostat, and having linked it to my android phone and Google Home, I can now set schedules, adjust the temperature from my phone or with my voice, and hopefully tackle my HVAC problems.

In the summer my apartment is prone high humidity.  Yet it remains cool enough that I do not need to run the air conditioner.  Furthermore, upon running the air conditioner I become too cold and have great difficulty moving my hands.  The Nest has settings to allow me to run the air just enough to reduce the humidity, and to do it while I am at work, allowing the air conditioner to turn off before I return home.

The first couple of weeks with the new Nest have proven great, and hopefully it will continue to justify its $200 price tag.
