Toys for a Cause

A friend shared this inspiring story with me today, Teacher donates toys for a cause, of a 50 year old Oregon teacher, Nat Ellis, who donated his collection of toys to help provide a 4 year old boy with type 2 SMA, Logan, secure a new outdoor wheelchair.  It’s great to hear inspiring stories such as this one.

It’s great that Mr. Ellis and the community were willing to step in and raise the funds to help Logan get out and enjoy the outdoors.  Many kids in Logan’s situation are left without many opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy the wonders that nature has to offer.

An interesting note of insurance semantics, is that most insurance will cover “durable medical equipment”.  However, Insurance, Medicaid, and other related funding will only provide equipment that is designated “for indoor use”.  This chair, however, being for outdoor use remains uncovered by insurance.
